Is’Thunzi

Television series · Created, written and directed by Amanda Lane

Bold, emotionally raw and unapologetically female-centred, Is’Thunzi follows four young Black South African girls confronting harsh realities while pursuing their dreams of a better future. Blending humour, romance and high-stakes drama, it is a story of sisterhood, resilience and defiance.

Thuso Mbedu received two International Emmy nominations for her performance in the series.

Nearly a decade on, Is’thunzi remains a benchmark for bold, female-centred African storytelling, giving young Black girls the freedom to be complex, flawed and, ultimately, the heroes of their own stories.

Produced by Rapid Blue for Mzansi Magic.
